Bio
The 1979 winner of what was then the Broderick Cup was Old Dominion superstar Nancy Lieberman. Raised on the playgrounds of Harlem, Nancy was the only high school player selected to the USA’s first Women’s Olympic Basketball Team in 1976, helping capture a Silver Medal in Montreal. She then led the Lady Monarchs to back-to-back AIAW national titles in 1979 and 1980. Nancy's barrier-breaking career extended well beyond college. She played in the WNBA’s inaugural season with the Phoenix Mercury, later coached and managed the Detroit Shock, and even returned to the court at age 50 for a one-week contract. Nancy has since become the first female head coach of a men’s pro team in the NBA G League and an assistant coach with the Sacramento Kings.
