Madison Booker from the University of Texas, Paige Bueckers of the University of Connecticut, Notre Dame University’s Hannah Hildago and JuJu Watkins from the University of Southern California have been announced as the four finalists for the Class of 2025 Honda Sport Award for Women’s Basketball, as revealed today by Chris Voelz, Executive Director of The Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA).
The Honda Sport Award has been presented annually by the CWSA for the past 49 years, recognizing the top women athletes in 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports and symbolizing “the best of the best in collegiate athletics.” The recipient of the sport award will become a finalist for the prestigious Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the 2025 Honda Cup, which will be presented during the live broadcast of the Collegiate Women Sports Awards Presented by Honda on June 30, at 7 pm ET, on CBS Sports Network.
The basketball finalists were chosen by a panel of experts and coaches from the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). The Honda Sport award winner for basketball will be announced later this week after voting by administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools. Each NCAA member institution has a vote.
Booker, a sophomore from Ridgeland, Miss., earned back-to-back WBCA First Team All-America honors and was a 2025 finalist for both the Wade Trophy and Wooden Award. She was named Conference Player of the Year in both the Big 12 and SEC and helped lead Texas to the 2025 NCAA Final Four. A two-time Miller Small Forward of the Year, Booker averaged 16.3 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game, racking up 10 conference Player of the Week honors this season.
Bueckers, a native of Hopkins, Minn., led UConn to its 12th national title and was named the 2025 Wade Trophy winner. The three-time All-American and Big East Player of the Year averaged 19.9 points and 4.6 assists per game while ranking second nationally in assist-turnover ratio (3.49). A redshirt senior guard, she finishes her career ranked third all-time in UConn scoring (2,439 points) and holds the record as the fastest player in program history to reach 2,000 points.
Hidalgo made history in just her second season, becoming one of only two Notre Dame players to post multiple 700-point seasons. The 2025 ACC Player of the Year averaged 23.8 points and 3.7 steals per game—both among the top four in the country—and was a finalist for the Wade, Naismith and Wooden Awards. A sophomore guard hailing from Merchantville, N.J., she broke four school single-season records and now ranks in the program’s career Top 10 in 11 different categories.
Watkins, a guard from Los Angeles, Calif., earned National Player of the Year honors from USBWA, Naismith and Sporting News, while winning the Wooden and Dawn Staley Awards. The sophomore standout averaged 23.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 2.2 steals and 1.8 blocks per game. She became the fastest Trojan to 1,000 career points and holds USC’s single-season scoring record with 21 career 30-point games—just four shy of the all-time program record.
The CWSA, now in its 49th year, celebrates the nation’s top NCAA women athletes for their excellence in athletics, leadership, academics, and community service. Since its partnership began in 1986, Honda has provided more than $3.4 million in institutional grants to the universities of award winners and nominees, supporting the growth and success of women’s athletics programs.
