Johns Hopkins University senior Katie Sullivan has been named a finalist for the DIII Honda Athlete of the Year award for soccer, as announced today by Chris Voelz, Executive Director of The Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) presented by Honda.
Sullivan is among 11 elite finalists for this prestigious award, which recognizes the top NCAA Division III athletes across various sports. The winner will be determined through national balloting by representatives from over 1,000 NCAA member schools and announced at the end of the academic year as part of the CWSA program, now in its 49th year.
“I am truly honored to be a finalist for the Division III Honda Athlete of the Year Award,” Sullivan stated. “Playing soccer at Johns Hopkins has provided me with so many opportunities, including playing at the highest level while also going to one of the best Universities in the nation. It has allowed to me to achieve a dream of mine - winning a National Championship - but most importantly, it has allowed me to better myself as an athlete and a person, given me friendships that will last a lifetime, and has prepared me well for my future career.”
A native of Yardley, Penn., Sullivan was recently named a 2024 First Team All-American by United Soccer Coaches, marking her fourth career All-America honor and making her the first four-time All-American in program history. This is her third time earning First Team recognition (2021, 2023, 2024), adding to her Second Team selection as a sophomore in 2022. Notably, Sullivan is the only player on this year’s All-America team to earn the honor in each of the past four seasons.
In addition to her All-America accolades, Sullivan is a four-time United Soccer Coaches All-Region honoree and All-Centennial Conference member along with twice being named the 2024 Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Year.
She led the Blue Jays this season with 19 goals, eight assists, and 46 points. Concluding her career, she ranks second in school history in goals (60) and points (151) and is tied for second in assists (31).
Off the field, Sullivan was named a Third Team College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-American as an economics major. She has worked closely with the Advocates for the Homeless and Those in Need (AHTN) Shared Meals Program since 2017.
“I am thrilled to see that Katie has been selected as a finalist for the DIII Honda Award,” head coach Dan Weiler noted. “While her on-field ability has been evident to many over the last four years, she has been equally accomplished in the classroom at one of the challenging and prestigious University’s in the world. Katie has been a truly remarkable representative of our program and Johns Hopkins University on and off the field and the CWSA and Honda could pick no finer person for this award than Katie Sullivan.”
All finalists for the DIII and DII Honda Athlete of the Year will be honored during a live telecast on CBS Sports Network in June in New York City.
The Honda Sport Award recognizes student-athletes in 11 NCAA-sanctioned sports, including cross country, basketball, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, volleyball, and track & field.
Now in its 49th year, the CWSA honors the nation’s top female collegiate athletes for their exceptional athletic performance, leadership, academic achievements, and community service. Since partnering with Honda in 1986, the program has awarded over $3.4 million in institutional grants to support women’s athletics at universities across the country.
